Ergonomics — Public Tenders

Ergonomic workplace equipment is gaining importance in public procurement. The German Workplaces Ordinance (ArbStättV) and the Display Screen Equipment Regulation oblige public employers to ensure ergonomic working conditions. Tenders cover height-adjustable desks, ergonomic office chairs, monitor arms, standing desks and ergonomic input devices.

Typical tenders in ergonomics

  • Framework agreement for electrically height-adjustable sit-stand desks
  • Procurement of ergonomic swivel office chairs with individual adjustment service
  • Supply of monitor arms and screen stands for a state administration
  • Ergonomic keyboards and mice for employees with musculoskeletal complaints
  • Standing desks and standing aids for meeting rooms
  • Ergonomic workplace consultancy and equipment under occupational reintegration management (BEM)

Challenges in finding tenders

Ergonomic products are rarely tendered under the keyword "ergonomics". Instead, they are included in general office-furniture tenders, with ergonomic requirements specified only in the specifications. CPV codes do not distinguish between standard furniture and ergonomic products.

In addition, individual ergonomic solutions (e.g. for employees with a medical certificate) are often handled as single procurements below the thresholds and are barely visible on the market.
